An Irish chef Alan Fisher has broken the world record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual previously held by Nigeria’s Hilda Baci.
Hilda set her record of 93 hours and 11 minutes in May, preparing over 100 pots of food during her four-day kitchen stint. She broke the record of 87 hours and 45 minutes set in 2019 by Indian chef Lata Tondon.
However, on Tuesday, the Guinness World Records (GWR) announced that Fisher, a restaurant owner based in Japan, now holds the record for the longest cooking marathon.

Alan Fisher from Ireland cooked for an incredible 119 hours and 57 minutes at his restaurant in Japan 🥄
The GWR said via its website that Fisher cooked for 119 hours and 57 minutes at his restaurant in Japan.
In addition to this, Fisher also claimed the title for the longest baking marathon (individual), clocking in at 47 hours and 21 minutes, surpassing the previous record held by Wendy Sandner from the USA, who had a time of 31 hours and 16 minutes.
Fisher took on both challenges consecutively, spending over 160 hours in the kitchen with just a little over a day of rest in between the two record-breaking attempts.
He started his business in August 2014 and learned about the longest cooking marathon record in March while he was participating in the ‘I Love Ireland’ festival in Tokyo.
The Irish cook had difficulty staying afloat when lockdowns and restrictions were introduced due to COVID-19.
In order to channel his frustration and negativity into something positive, he decided to take on the record-breaking journey himself.
“Lata and Hilda’s achievements served as an inspiration,” he said.
On the GWR’s X page, Nigerians and fans of Hilda have begun declaring their unflinching love for the chef who won their hearts with her culinary skills and looks.
