Ten Hag gives verdict on penalty decision as Man Utd fail to beat Crystal Palace
Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has refused to blame the referee after his team was refused a penalty in their Premier League 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace on Wednesday.
During the encounter, Scott McTominay appeared to be brought down by Crystal Palace defender Chris Richards after bursting into the box in the second half.
Referee Robert Jones did not deem the challenge a foul, with VAR Neil Swarbrick agreeing with the on-field decision as two goals from Bruno Fernandes and Michael Olise ensured both teams got a point each.
“You have to accept the decisions from the VAR and the referees,” Ten Hag said in a post-match press conference after the game.
“I look in the mirror, I look at my team, I look at my own management and coaching and then I say invest more for the second goal, then you avoid situations where you’re dependent on the refereeing, VAR etc. That is what we have to do.”
